Guru Purnima - A festival of  Surrender unto THEE in the form of GURU
  (July 11, 2006 )

Sivananda Ashtostra Shata Namavali.

"In the life of a sincere seeking soul, in the life of jijnasu, a mumukshu, a sadhaka, a spiritual aspirant, the Guru is as it were, the sun.  It is the Guru that awakens us from our slumber of ignorance.  It is the Guru who, by his light, banishes the darkness of ignorance and wrong notions that the jivatma has about life, and brings in the light of right reasoning, right perception and right thought.  It is the Guru that also makes us see the way, through his own lofty, sublime personal example, through his own dynamic philosophy, through his own teachings personal instructions."

THE 108 NAMES OF GURUDEV SRI SWAMI SIVANANDA

"Dev Dev Sivananda Din Bandhu Pahi Mam......", lyrics by Swami Hridayananda - Audio Clip

"It is the Guru that points out the path and makes us see the path clearly. He points out the pitfalls and dangers upon the path, makes us alert, vigilant jagrit. And, even as the sun initiates activity, so the Guru inspires us to arise awake, seek knowledge, attain illumination and become forever blessed. All this and more the Guru does."
What is the sun if not its light? The sun is no sun if there is no light.  The sun is the sun because it radiates perennial light, an inexhaustible, unbroken supply of light even so, the Guru is his jnana upadesa." - Swami Chidananda << More>>

Early Morning Meditation talks from" Ponder These Truths" By Swami Chidananda

"Early In The Morning"

"Pratah smarami, pratar-bhajami, pratar-namami (I remember Thee early morning, I worship Thee early morning, I bow down to Thee early morning). With these words several of the hymns of salutations and adorations, several of the well known slokas of Adi Sankaracharya begin. So much so, that this triplet of verses has come to be known as the pratah smarami stotra.
What is the speciality about praying early in the morning, worshipping God early in the morning?

A mystical poet has beautifully given to us, in brief, this little secret of the right way of starting one’s day, so that one reaps a golden harvest of fullest benefit from this charming, this wonderful, this magic period of the early dawn.

I met God in the morning
When my day was of its best,
And His Presence came like sunrise,
Like a glory in my breast.
All day long the Presence lingered,
All day long He stayed with me,
And we sailed in perfect calmness
    Over a very troubled sea.
So I think I know the secret
Learned from many a troubled way,
You must seek Him in the morning
If you want Him through the day.
                                    —Ralph Cushman.

Thus it is that there is this special quality, a special state of consciousness prevailing in this interim period between the disadvantages of both the sleep state and the fully awakened, preoccupied state."<<More>>.

May I Answer That?  -  Swami Sivananda

Q & A on Spiritual Life and Sadhana from “May I Answer That?”- by Holy Master Sri Swami Sivanandaji  Maharaj.
Who is a righteous man?
A righteous man is he who is pure in thought, word and deed and who observes Yama and Niyama to the very letter. He ever moves astray for the sake of paltry gains and selfish ends. He is ever pious, God-fearing, Self-centered and selfless. He has cosmic vision and a broad outlook. He is equanimous and tolerant towards all. He is a mine of all virtues like charity, nobility, sincerity, humility, renunciation, serenity, simplicity and so on. No egoism, no lust, no greed, no crooked-mindedness, no vanity can find a place in him. The righteous man is ever the object of adoration of all. There will be no enemies to him at all, for he loves all friends and foes equally.

Incidence from H. H. Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj's Life

In his searching message to the Sadhaks, Swamiji said, "Yes, my beloved friends! The divine scales weigh human actions not only by the measures of the prayer recited and Mantras chanted, not only by the measures of candles lit, lights waved, bells rung and books read, but let me tell you clearly that the divine scales measure man by the quality of the feelings harboured in the heart, by the very words with which you speak and address your neighbours and by each and every simple action of yours in your dealings with all those amongst whom Providence has decreed that you live your life." The compassionate messenger of God in these words revealed the purpose for which God has sent us to this earth plane.
