"Mahatma Gandhiji - The Pattern of a Perfect Life" -  Swami  Sivananda on the occasion of "Gandhi Jayanti"  (Oct 2, 2007 )

"Mahatma Gandhi’s life is a monument to the triumph of spirit over flesh, a living witness to the victory of the divine over the base nature of man. A continuous exercise of self-restraint and discipline, along with deep prayer and an invincible faith in the Divine, enabled him to successfully resist all kinds of temptations, overcome all obstacles and gain full mastery over himself."

"Mahatmaji demonstrated how a life of complete detachment and renunciation may be led while remaining in the thick of battle. His was a supreme example of one who had completely annihilated the ego, the little "I", and led a divine life in the world. His life was like that of a lotus leaf in water.".......Swami Sivananda << More>>
Navaratri & Its Spiritual Significances by Swami Sivananda (Oct 12, 2007 - Oct 21, 2007)

"The central purpose of existence is to recognise your eternal identity with the supreme Spirit. It is to grow into the image of the Divine. The supreme One embodies the highest perfection. It is spotless purity. To recognise your identity with That, to attain union with That, is verily to grow into the very likeness of the Divine. The aspirant, therefore, as his initial step, has to get rid of all the countless impurities, and the demoniacal elements that have come to cling to him in his embodied state. Then he has to acquire lofty virtues and auspicious, divine qualities. Thus purified, knowledge flashes upon him like the brilliant rays of the sun upon the crystal waters of a perfectly calm lake."
"This process demands a resolute will, determined effort and arduous struggle. In other words, strength and infinite power are the prime necessity. Thus it is the Divine Mother who has to operate through the aspirant. Let us now consider how?" ........Swami Sivananda << More >>

Early Morning Meditation talks from "Ponder These Truths" by Sri Swami Chidananda

The Peace Within
"The peace of the Supreme Being is within every human individual. This peace that passeth understanding, this peace that is supreme, higher than which there is nothing, which is profound peace, perennial peace, is the truth about your inner Self. It is the one real thing within amidst a thousand miscellaneous thoughts being allowed to flit and fill the mind, being allowed to agitate and disperse the mind"......
"You are that peace if you establish your identity with that peace instead of with the numerous other fancies and thoughts that come into your mind. Be as you are. And this peace overcomes time. For this peace there is no past, there is no present, there is no future. It is always. It is here, now, and it is for all times. It is beyond time—this peace which is your truth.".........Swami Chidananda <<More>>

Pearls of  Wisdom

On Truth (Satyam)

"Search for truth is search for God. Truth is God. God is because Truth is.
God alone is truth and everything else is transitory and illusory.
Though God may be Love, God is Truth above all.
Truth is what the voice within tells you.
Truth alone will endure, all the rest will swept away before the tide of time.
Truth should be so humble that even the dust could crush him.
Truth without humility would be an arrogant caricature.
If you would swim on the bosom of the ocean of Truth, you must reduce yourself to a zero.
The quest of Truth involves tapas—self-suffering—sometimes even unto death.
Truth is the first to be sought for, and Beauty and Goodness will then be added unto you.
Truth is like a vast tree which yields more and more fruit the more you nurture it."
On Nonviolence( Ahimsa)

"Ahimsa is the highest ideal. It is meant for the brave, never for the cowardly.
Ahimsa is the eradication of the desire to injure or to kill.
Ahimsa is not a matter of mere dietetics: it transcends it.
Ahimsa is the highest duty. Even if we cannot practice it in full, we must try to understand its spirit and refrain as far as is humanly possible from violence.
Ahimsa means infinite love, which again means infinite capacity for suffering. "

-Mahatma Gandhiji
