Divya Darshan of Most Worshipful and Revered Sri Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj on Birthday of His Holiness (Sept 24, 2008)

"Divya Darshan" of Most Worshipful and Revered Sri Swami Chidanandji Maharaj at "Sri Chidananda Dhyan Mandir" is our unrelenting source of inspiration at Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad. Ever since Sri Gurumaharaj inaugurated "Sri Ashtalaxmi Bhavan" and "Sri Chidananda Dhyan Mandir" in 2001, His Spiritual Presence is guiding, protecting and enlightening countless devotees here at the Ashram.

Our Beloved Gurumaharaj has attained Mahasamahi ( August 28, 2008) and merged in to Bliss Absolute and now, through His Virat  Swarupa, HE will be inspiring , guiding & protecting His countless disciples & devotees who are busy serving the Mankind and struggling to achieve the Realization of Absolute.

In the words of the Master...................

"Celebration of Swami Chidanandaji's Birthday is really worship of God.

During the celebrations of the Birthdays of great men you hear of their actions, their thoughts and their instructions, and the way in which they led their life. You imbibe several good qualities from their glorious example. You try to emulate them. You put those qualities into practice in your daily life.

Frequent Birthday celebrations are necessary. Constantly hammering of sublime ideas on the mind is necessary. Your mind will otherwise run in its own old grooves. Through daily Japa you will have to bring it under control. Regularity is a very important thing.

But you always forget these important things of life. You don't forget the minute items of your food, but you forget God. An ounce of practice is better than tons of theory.
You have a sin-hardened heart that commits various misdeeds. It has to be made soft as butter, by the practice of compassion. A man may deliver lectures for hours together, but if you don't find compassion and humility in him shun him.
Compassion and humility Swami Chidanandaji has got in abundance. In the previous birth itself he was a Sannyasin; from the way in which he behaves we can find that out.
Practise compassion, service, humility and other virtues. Then shine like our Chidanandaji. This is my fervent prayer !

Chidananda is a Jeevanmukta, a great saint, an ideal Yogi, a Para Bhakta and a great sage. Swami Chidananda is all this and much more .... He was born to fulfil a great mission. He is the torch-bearer of my mission."- Swami Sivananda

Navaratri & Its Spiritual Significance -by  Swami Sivananda
(Sept 30, 2008 - Oct  9, 2008 )

"The central purpose of existence is to recognise your eternal identity with the supreme Spirit. It is to grow into the image of the Divine. The supreme One embodies the highest perfection. It is spotless purity. To recognise your identity with That, to attain union with That, is verily to grow into the very likeness of the Divine. The aspirant, therefore, as his initial step, has to get rid of all the countless impurities, and the demoniacal elements that have come to cling to him in his embodied state. Then he has to acquire lofty virtues and auspicious, divine qualities. Thus purified, knowledge flashes upon him like the brilliant rays of the sun upon the crystal waters of a perfectly calm lake."
"This process demands a resolute will, determined effort and arduous struggle. In other words, strength and infinite power are the prime necessity. Thus it is the Divine Mother who has to operate through the aspirant. Let us now consider how?" ........Swami Sivananda << More >>

Knowledge is Meant to be Lived

"Philosophy and spirituality, of which you are all students, are to be known, but more than acquiring knowledge, a student of philosophy and spirituality must also try to acquire the practical wisdom of how to fit this newly gained knowledge into his daily life, thoughts, words and actions. In short, “how can I live in the light of this philosophy? how can I base my life upon this philosophy? whatever I have learned in Yoga, how can I turn it into a new form, into my day-to-day life and actions?” This you must know.

Philosophy and Vedanta are both for knowing and for living. If they are only known, you become a pundit, a scholar, a professor, a lecturer. You will be highly regarded. You will be able to teach philosophy to others, impart the knowledge of Yoga to others, but you yourself will not be a Yogi, a sadhak. For it is whether the philosophy, which has made you a learned person and pundit, is seen to manifest in your everyday life and actions, philosophy in action, philosophy in application—that determines whether or not you can be regarded as a spiritual person.".............  - Swami Chidananda << More>>

Health Topics from "Yoga & Health" by Swami Adhyatmananda

Varicose Veins: What causes the varicose veins? What are the common symptoms of varicose veins? What Yogasana would help prevent it ?
Healthy veins return blood to the heart and lungs so it can be re-oxygenated. A system of valves makes this happen by allowing the blood to flow in only one direction, up. When valves fail or leak, gravity causes blood to flow backwards and pool inside the vein. This causes a varicose vein. The common symptoms of varicose veins include: pain, fatigue, itching, burning, swelling, cramping, restlessness and throbbing.  Regular Practice of flexibility exercises, Uttanapadasana (Ekpada-uttanpadasana, Dwipada-uttanpadasana), Ardhapavana-muktasana, Pavanamuktasana, Naukasana, Urdhvamukh, paschimottanasana, Dhanurasana, Chakrasana, Viparitakarani mudra, Sarvangasana and Shirasana help prevent varicose veins. One has also to perform Bhramari Pranayama and Omkar recitation also. Extreme cases require medical consultation & therapy. <<More>>.

Incidence from H. H. Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj's Life

"Once Swamiji was moving by train through North India. As usual, he did some Kirtan on the platform praying for the welfare of others and when the train began to move he got into his compartment. By that time some rich businessman had come in and having thrown out Swamiji's bed was comfortable on the berth allotted to Swamiji. Swamiji heard the man sarcastically telling Sri Ram Ratanji a devotee accompanying him, that somebody must have donated the first class fare to the Swami. As the indignant Ram Ratanji was about to retort, Swamiji meekly said that the Sethji was correct and that, being a Sannyasi, he need not have the comfort of a cushion. So saying, he spread his bed on the floor by the side of the berth and lay down there. The unruffled contented manner in which Swamiji meekly forfeited his legal claim over the berth had immediate effect on the Sethji who came to know that he was dealing with an extraordinary person and repentantly begged Swamiji to excuse him and prayed him to come back to his berth. In such a situation anybody of lesser equanimity and humility would have demurred or made a scene. Swami Chidananda who had undergone total self-effacement did not think that there was any occasion to be vexed or agitated. And now there was again an exemplary gesture. When
he saw that the Sethji was full of sincere remorse, instead of obstinately remaining on the floor he quietly went over to the berth without any fuss."
